Indulge in a scenic motorcycle tour through the western front of Nepal and explore the
biggest lake in the country-Rara Lake on the Rara Motorcycle Tour. Rara Lake is a nature’s
wonder located deep inside the forested trails of Rara National Park. The pristine site lies
away from human settlements deep inside the alpine coniferous forests of Rara National
Park. The Kathmandu Rara Kathmandu Motorcycle Tour traverses over 2000km from
Kathmandu and heads to the abode of the Thakuri communities.
The 15-day Rara Lake Motorcycle Tour commences upon your arrival in Kathmandu.
Accompanied by a tour guide, you’ll begin riding through the Trishuli Highway and, later,
join the East-West Highway to reach the first stop at Butwal. The tour advances west
through the East-West Highway to reach Surkhet and continues along the rough roads to
pass Sinja. On the final part of the ride, the trip heads north on off-beat tracks to reach the
Rara Lake. The latter section of the tour may encounter numerous difficult detours, off-
roads, and forested trail. Riding through the toughest roads in the country is well-worth
when you reach Rara Lake. Rara Lake and its premises within the Rara National Park are
home to 500 different species of flowers, 20 different species of mammals, and 214 species
of birds. You will spend two days in Rara Lake taking a stroll along the banks of the lake,
boating in the lake, and exploring the national park. You’ll retrace your path and drive
through Khalanga Bazaar, Surkhet, and Chitwan to reach Kathmandu. The trip concedes
upon your return to Kathmandu City. The best time to visit Rara Lake is preferable during
two different seasons; namely, spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November).

Arrival in KathmanduOnce you arrive in Kathmandu, our company representative will pick you up from Tribhuvan International Airport and escort you to your hotel. You can rest for the day and enjoy your own time as there are no scheduled sightseeing activities today.
Ride Kathmandu to Butwal 266 km. 7 hoursYou’ll kick off the journey after early morning breakfast. You’ll drive outside of Kathmandu and ride through the serpentine Prithvi Highway to reach Chitwan. From here, you'll be riding through the East-West Highway. You’ll pass through numerous colorful Terai villages and the vast expanse of evergreen forest to reach Butwal. Once you reach the beautiful Butwal city in the heart of Terai, you can enjoy the evening life and relish some of the local delicacies.
Ride Butwal to Surkhet 334 km. 8 hoursLeaving Butwal, you’ll continue through the East-West Highway. The long stretch of road passes through numerous small settlements and paddy fields en route to Banke National Park. You’ll be required to register your entry with the Nepal Army before proceeding forward. The highway goes through the national park and if you’re lucky, you might spot deer and wild birds. You’ll reach the junction at Kohalpur and continue along the route to reach Surkhet.
Ride Surkhet to Sinja 91 km. 8 hoursThe ride will be different from the previous days. From Surkhet, you’ll take a detour and ride through the long expanse of off-road along the farmlands, streams, and high hills to reach Sinja. Sinja lies in Jumla District and serves as the gateway to Mugu district. Sinja Valley is a beautiful place with exquisite landscape and rich history.
Ride Sinja to Rara 70 km. 8 hoursYou’ll encounter rough terrain from here on. Leaving Sinja, you’ll ride through dusty off- road and eventually enter the premise of Rara National Park at Ghorosingha. You may encounter musk deer, Himalayan Ghoral, red panda, and Himalayan Thar inside the park. You’ll continue riding on the rough trails of Rara Lake Circuit and drive past Murma and Chhapri village to arrive at the majestic Rara Lake.
Rest day in RaraToday, you’ll take a break in Rara and enjoy resting beside the pristine lake. You can make a brief hike to Murma Viewpoint for a majestic sight of Rara Lake if you are up for it. The viewpoint is said to provide mesmerizing views of the surrounding Himalayas and the changing colors of the Rara Lake. You can spend the rest of the day strolling around the Rara National Park and admiring the beautiful nature of the area.
Exploration dayToday, you’ll go boating in the lake and enjoy some peaceful quality time floating in the lake. You can take photos and indulge in sun-bathing while catching the beautiful sights of Malika Danda, and Chuchemara Danda. You can also indulge in a horse riding around the Lake. Likewise, the national park offers serene trails to stroll around or hike. Here, you can witness a diverse array of wild flora and fauna. Overnight in Rara.
Ride back to Khalanga Bazar Jumla. 8 hoursLeaving Rara Lake, you’ll begin riding through the rough off-road route and head towards Khalanga Bazaar. You’ll pass Malikabota, Sani Gaon, and few other tiny villages en route to Khalanga Bazaar, the district headquarters of Jumla. The bazaar lies alongside the Karnali River and is one of the most developed places of North-West Region in Nepal.
Ride back to Surkhet. 9 hoursLeaving Khalanga Bazaar, you’ll continue through the rough terrain to catch a road back to Surkhet. You’ll pass through many small villages including Salma, Kalyan, and Rakam, to reach Surkhet. The ride will be longer today and may stretch up to 9 hours. You will be descending for most of the ride.
Ride back to Chitwan. 9 hoursThe route here on will be smoother. You’ll ride through the East-West Highway and pass along Banke and Butwal to reach Chitwan. You can choose to take brief breaks at Dang, Bhairahawa, or Butwal en route to Chitwan. Chitwan lies in the Terai plains of Nepal so, the road will level down and be easier for you to ride through.
Ride back to Kathmandu. 5 hoursThis will be the last day of the tour. You’ll leave the forested site of Chitwan and ride north to join the Prithvi Highway. You’ll continue through the serpentine road to reach Kathmandu. From the plains, you once again make your way to the hilly region of Nepal. The ride may last anywhere around 4 to 5 hours.
Final DepartureToday, we’ll drop you off at Tribhuvan International Airport. Our company representative will take you to the airport for your scheduled flight. You will leave early to avoid any delays. We bid you farewell and wish for a safe trip!
